Once your child reaches their 2nd birthday, they are usually ready for a bigger world and will move on to the Infant room. We feel that there is such a big difference from a child who has just turned 2 years old to a child who is turning 3 years old, and this is why we have created our own unique Infant room with children aged 2 years to 2 years 6 months.
At this age in your child’s life, it’s important that they are given access to a wide range of activities to keep their active minds engaged.
Positive reinforcement is embedded throughout the nursery, so therefore rather than telling the children what we don't want them to do, we ask them what we want them to do e.g. if a child is running, we ask them to use their walking feet instead of stop running. This avoids a negative environment and helps children understand the boundaries in place.
Children's communication and language rapidly starts to develop around this age. To help aid childrens understanding and to bring on those little voices we use Makaton, objects of reference and visual aids. Not only does this support and bring on their language but also helps with their confidence, for example rather than taking a child straight to the nappy changing area, we will first show them a nappy and say "nappy".
Some Infants are ready for the next big step of potty/toilet training but don't worry we are here to help you every step of the way to make it as non-stressful and easy as possible. Within the Infant room we have a separate bathroom equipped with a child height toilet, sink and hand drier,
and for those children that are not quite ready we also have a nappy changing facility.
We share information with you via Tapestry, an online journal that records all the learning and fun of your child’s early education. Each child’s development and personal interests are recorded in their Learning Journal using observations, photos and videos from nursery. We record special moments and keep you and any person you authorise, involved in a partnership with us as your child blossoms and grows. Parents are able to view and comment on these special moments, and are able to contribute their own stories of the child’s life outside of nursery.
